The independence of Malta has shown the dominance of two parties which are the Christian Democratic Nationalist Party and the Social Democratic Malta Labor Party.

Elections have a voting turnout of 90% of the voters which can be attributed to the strong economic growth and employment opportunities provided by the tourism industries and the malta hotels. The nationalist government pushed for the membership of the country in the European Union which divided the country.
