Blue Lagoon, Comino
The ultimate beach destination is Comino, the bays of Santa Maria and the beautiful Blue Lagoon are both worthwhile visiting. The obvious way to visit Comino and the Blue Lagoon is to join one of the many full day cruises that operate there, to view our cruise selection go to Cruising, Sailing and the Blue Lagoon. If you do not have enough time to spend a whole day cruising, the quickest way to get there is by POWERBOAT.
St. Peter's Pool
A scenic, peaceful and relatively uncrowded beach. It's small, just a flat slab of rock, the water is clean and clear which make ideal for a spot of snorkelling. The bay is enclosed by creamy white cliffs. St. Peter's Pool is not recommended for families with small children, and it is also suggested that you take refreshments and snacks with you.
Pretty Bay
Located in the once quaint resort town of Birzebbugia, and even though nowadays Malta's Freeport overlooks the bay, this beach is very popular, especially with locals. The beach and facilities are ideal for families with children, there are various types of eateries in the area and are inexpensive. Running parallel with the beach is a lovely promenade with a children's play area.
Qawra Point
One of the best areas to swim in the Qawra/Bugibba area. The sea is clear and this rocky beach is also ideal for those wishing to try out some snorkelling. It is located along the peninsula (behind the Ta'Fra Ben) far enough from the main road for momentary illusion of escape.
Ghajn Tufffieha and Golden Bay
Two of the main stream beaches very close to each other separated only by a headland. Golden Bay is the obvious choice for families with children and those that must have all the facilities, services and amenities at close hand. Ghajn Tuffieha is stunning, the accessibility however may cause a problem for those that do not like climbing stairs.
Mellieha Bay
The longest stretch of sand in Malta (1.5km). Probably the best beach for families with children and ideal for those whom are not particularly strong swimmers. No dangerous undercurrents, an easy and gradual exit to the sea, it is ideal. All the usual amenities are available.
Little Armier
Located in the isolated part of the north west, this delightful beach, partly sandy is also good for a spot of snorkelling. The best time to go is mid-week as the locals flock here at the weekend and also avoid Monday's during the busy summer months.
Paradise Bay
A small but pleasant and well serviced beach. The only drawback is the long flight of stairs, particularly at the end of the day after spending a day sunbathing and swimming. Avoid it unconditionally unless you arrive very early or very late in the day and never go at the weekends.
Selmun Bay
Idyllic little beach and very popular with twenty plus. Even though it secluded it is serviced by an enterprising local offering refreshments for purchase. When searching for it on your map it is also known named as Imgiebah Bay.
Mistra Bay
This bay offers a really relaxing atmosphere. It is a secluded inlet and there is rocky beach, also very good for snorkelling. Frequented mainly by the middle aged group, access is easy and all the usual services are available here. |
