Għasri (Gozo) — valley village: Wied il-Għasri, Corpus Christi and living
Għasri is one of the smallest villages of Gozo, in the Gozo & Comino District, in the north-west of the island. It is known for the narrow sea inlet of Wied il-Għasri, the Ta' Ġurdan Lighthouse nearby, and a parish dedicated to Corpus Christi.
Where is Għasri?
Għasri lies in north-western Gozo, north of Victoria and between Għarb and Żebbuġ (Gozo). It belongs to the Gozo & Comino District and is among the least densely populated localities on the island.
History of Għasri
Għasri grew from scattered farming hamlets in the north-west of Gozo and became a small parish dedicated to Corpus Christi. The Ta' Ġurdan Lighthouse, built in the 19th century on the highest hill in the area, became a landmark for shipping, while Wied il-Għasri — a deep, narrow cleft in the coast — has long been used by local fishermen and swimmers.
