About Nadur
Nadur — Gozo
Nadur stands high on a ridge in eastern Gozo, its name meaning "lookout" — and from here the island watches over the channel to Comino and Malta. A large, prosperous town with a magnificent basilica, it is famous for its boisterous Carnival and for the quiet beaches that hide beneath its cliffs.
Where is Nadur?
Nadur occupies a high ridge in the east of Gozo, between Victoria and the Mġarr ferry terminal. From its heights it overlooks Mġarr harbour, the channel and the island of Comino.
History of Nadur
The ridge was used as a watch-point for centuries, guarding the approaches to Gozo from the east. The town grew steadily as a farming community, and the Kenuna Tower — a 19th-century semaphore tower — still stands as a reminder of its role in signalling across the islands. Nadur's wealth from agriculture and, later, emigration funded its grand basilica.
What to see in Nadur
The richly decorated Basilica of St Peter and St Paul. The 19th-century Kenuna Tower and its panoramic views. The beaches of San Blas Bay and Daħlet Qorrot, reached by steep paths below the town. Nadur's famous spontaneous Carnival in February.
Transport in Nadur
Nadur is linked by bus to Victoria and the ferry terminal at Mġarr. Its outlying bays are best reached by car, followed by a walk down to the shore.
