Msida (L-Imsida) is a harbour town in the Northern Harbour District of Malta, on Msida Creek at the inner end of Marsamxett Harbour. It is known for its yacht marina, the parish church of St Joseph, and its proximity to the main campus of the University of Malta.
Where is Msida?
Msida sits at the inner end of Marsamxett Harbour around Msida Creek, between Gżira, Ta' Xbiex, Pietà, Birkirkara and the University area at Tal-Qroqq. It belongs to the Northern Harbour District and is one of the busiest road junctions on the island.
History of Msida
Msida grew from a fishing and harbour community on its creek into a busy urban town. Its parish is dedicated to St Joseph. The Msida regatta and the creek's fishing-boat tradition reflect its maritime origins. In the modern period the development of the University of Malta campus at Tal-Qroqq and the Msida road junction made the town a key transport and education node.
