Għarb — Gozo

Għarb, whose name simply means "west", is a charming village in the far west of Gozo and the home of the Ta' Pinu Basilica, the island's great national shrine. With its fine Baroque church and rural setting near Dwejra, it is one of Gozo's most atmospheric corners.

History of Għarb

Għarb grew as a remote farming village in the west of the island. Its fame spread after 1883, when a local woman, Karmni Grima, reported hearing a call at the small chapel of Ta' Pinu; the site became a focus of devotion, and the great basilica was built there in the early 20th century. The village's own Baroque church and its traditional houses give it a timeless character.
