Luqa — airport town: Malta International Airport, St Andrew and living
Luqa (Ħal Luqa) is a town in the Southern Harbour District of Malta, in the centre-south of the island. It is best known as the location of Malta International Airport, and has a parish dedicated to St Andrew. The area was a major airfield and was heavily bombed in the Second World War.

Luqa lies in the centre-south of Malta, bordering Qormi, Marsa, Paola, Tarxien, Gudja and Kirkop. It belongs to the Southern Harbour District. Malta International Airport occupies a large area on the edge of the town.
History of Luqa
Luqa was a rural village that became strategically important in the 20th century when an airfield (RAF Luqa) was developed. During the Second World War the airfield was a key target and the village suffered very heavy bombing. After the war the airfield developed into Malta International Airport, the country's only civil airport. The parish church of St Andrew was rebuilt following wartime damage.
